THE RIDE VERDICT A close run thing with no clear winner
The numerical scores here show how close the overall performances are, though for quite different reasons. It’s also worth noting for every set, it would be the fastener that fails before the socket or ratchet and all exceeded the maximum torque I could generate — 48Nm.
Numerically, the Gedore takes the highest score. It’s a great value set that is easy to use and has the highest failure rating of everything we tested here, though the handle was short. However, on that basis, it is worthy of a Recommended triangle.
The Laser All-drive system feels very solid and positive to use. The handle feels chunky and though you get no accessories, the socket design means you can cover every common fastener with one socket. However, that does mean that you need to be careful to make sure you fit it correctly. For its versatility and strength though, it too is worthy of a Recommended triangle.
The Siegel from Sealey is supposedly a budget brand but it performed exceptionally well. The ratchet handle felt great and it came with a useful set of accessories. It’s shiny finish and no knurled rings meant it wasn’t quite as easy to use but it’s strength was well up there. Well deserving of a
Recommended triangle.
The reason we have three Recommended products and no Best Buy is we cannot decide which we would buy. These three are excellent (arguably, they all are) but they each do things in a slightly different way.
Ultimately, you make your choice based on your personal requirements. One thing we can be sure of is you won’t be disappointed with any of them.
