Chris Woods brings guitarists together
BECKY Langan, Rochdale’s own Guitar Star, recently introduced me to another stunning guitarist, Chris Woods, who performs and records as Chris Woods Groove and The Chris Woods Groove Orchestra.
Chris is also a composer and educator who tours across the globe appearing at festivals including Glastonbury and the Mikulášsky Jazz festival in Slovakia.
He also performs extensively in art houses and theatres.
Chris has carried out four extensive and successful clinic tours in Switzerland for Martin Guitars, as well as Martin clinics in the UK.
His book, Percussive Acoustic Guitar, published by Hal Leonard, has sold thousands of copies worldwide and is the go-to guide for contemporary percussive players.
Chris’s latest project, Guitar Revolution, is creating quite a stir amongst guitarists and the wider music fraternity.
Guitar Revolution is a piece of music made up of four parts, for an infinite number of guitars, composed by Chris himself. The parts range in difficulty from very simple to complex.
Players of all abilities and ages can learn the piece online for free and are then invited to perform with The Chris Woods Groove Orchestra on stage at a special Guitar Revolution event.
Guitar Revolution was launched at the London Acoustic Show at the Kensington Olympia in September.
The project was a huge success. After many months of self-generated social media, with players uploading video clips of them rehearsing the piece, the event was well over-subscribed.
All the players taking part couldn’t fit in the rehearsal room, forcing Chris to run two separate rehearsals.
The performance was a success, not only because of the huge number of people taking part, but also due to the profoundly positive effect it had on those participating and watching.
There were players of all ages and backgrounds performing together, with those who had only played for a few months alongside some the UK’s finest pro acoustic players.

The concept generated so much interest and demand that Guitar Revolution is now heading out on the road across the UK and EU in 2017.
All Across the Arts is working with Chris to bring Guitar Revolution to Rochdale.
