Close shave for generous Phil
A KIND-HEARTED charity worker is undergoing a close shave for a cause close to his heart.
Phil Jordan, 28, is having his bushy beard removed today, Saturday, for Cancer Research UK.
The former Wardle High School pupil, who lives in Milnrow, has cerebral palsy and learning difficulties.
He volunteers two mornings a week at the Cancer Research UK charity shop on Yorkshire Street and has raised more than £1,000 in recent years through various charity challenges.
“Phil cares very much about Cancer Research UK,” said his mum, Jean. “It’s a cause very close to his heart.
“He volunteers in the shop twice a week and is always willing to help boost funds in any way he can. He has a lot of fun doing it and wouldn’t give it up for anything.
“He is always dressing up and helping out at events for the charity. In fact, he’s planning on wearing a tutu when he has his beard taken off this weekend.”
Phil, an animal lover and football fan, has been growing the beard for the past few weeks.
It is the third in a series of annual fundraising events he has held for the charity.
In 2014, he had his head shaved, bringing in some £250.
And last year, Phil braved a leg wax, raising around £850 with the help of his supporters.
“He was really pleased with the amount he raised last year,” added Jean. “It was the most he’s ever got.
“This year, he is hoping to collect £500 in sponsorship, but we’re not sure how we’re going to do yet.
“He normally has a little bit of stubble but isn’t used to having a big beard like this and he can’t wait to get rid of it.”
The shave takes place at Fades N Blades on Church Street, Littleborough, from 11am on Saturday.
Phil’s friends and supporters are invited to attend and cheer him on.
