Boss’s praise for Vigouroux

-

ROCHDALE came up against an inspired goalkeeping performance from Lawrence Vigouroux on Tuesday.

While the visitors were far from their best, Vigouroux’s save to keep out Ian Henderson’s penalty and subsequent stops to deny Callum Camps and Calvin Andrew frustrated Keith Hill’s men.

The Dale chief was full of praise for the stopper afterwards.

“He is an outstanding goalkeeper, I think he is brilliant and he has everything to become a top, top keeper,” said Hill. “His distribution is as good as it gets, his composure is frightening and he has unbelievable confidence and self-belief.

“It’s as though nobody is going to beat him. I know he has been beaten this season a few times, but he is an outstanding prospect and I think he will get better and better.”

Having talked up the importance of discipline in light of the derby win against Bury last weekend – when the Shakers completely lost theirs – Hill was mildly disappointed by his side’s self-discipline at the County Ground.

That said, he was perplexed by Joe Bunney’s dismissal and said the club would be speaking to the FA regarding the incident.

“We watched the Joe Bunney incident again and I’m going to see the referee because I want to know why he has sent Joe off.

“We will definitely be speaking with the FA about it.

“You have to show self-discipline for the whole game – not everything is going to go your way with respect to refereeing decisions or the run of the ball. You’ve got to make it happen.”

Hill felt the changes made at the break and in the second half improved the performance.

“The changes we made were positive and definitely made a difference,” he said. “We needed that energy on the field and we got that and we could have scored a few in the second half. Fair credit to the opposition, I thought they were excellent. I love the way they play but I thought we helped them.”
