Shrine grows at scene of tragedy

-

A SHRINE has been created at the crash site.

Dozens of floral tributes have been left at the scene of the tragedy on Dewhirst Road at the junction with Garden Mews.

Distraught friends are also said to have held a vigil lighting candles and laying flowers upon hearing the news on Wednesday.

One of the many emotional messages left says: “RIP Talaina. You will be missed by everybody. You’re an amazing girl who would do anything for your friends. I could write so much. Forever young.”

Another reads: “To my absolute world. Have the best time up there and have a drink for me. I love you all the world and more.

“I can’t know what I will do without you, but I’ll try my best to make you proud you little part timer. From your best friend always, Dominique.”

The tragedy has also left local residents in shock.

Anne Nightingale, who lives nearby, said: “It’s absolutely dreadful. Everyone’s in a bit of a state of shock.

“She was so young as well. There were lots of people here last night standing at the spot, hugging each other and crying.

“I went out and offered them a hot drink but they were all absolutely distraught.”

Several neighbours are said to have rushed to the aid of Talaina and the driver of the car after the smash opposite the village’s pond.

Anne said: “I didn’t see the actual crash, but just heard a really loud bang and looked out and saw the aftermath. Lots of people had already run out to help and the police and paramedics were here within minutes.

“And now we’ve obviously had the sad news that she has died. It’s awful. Your thoughts just go to her family and her friends.”

Another neighbour, who didn’t want to be named said: “The car was a real mess so you immediately knew it was going to be nasty.

“My daughter was one of those who helped and gave the girl CPR whilst talking to the ambulance service who were talking her through what to do.

“It’s just unbelievably sad news, especially given her age.”
