Belt firm ties up deal with luxury car maker

-

ACONVEYOR belt manufacturer has signed a six-figure deal with luxury car maker Bentley.

Smallbridge-based KP Industries has completed a project which saw them providing the Britishmade vehicle giant with systems for their brand new Bentayga SUV model.

The Buckley Road firm designed, built and developed a state-of-the-art conveyor system with software which allows Bentley machine operators to manage the intricate stitching on the seat covers for its models.

KPI installed two separate conveyor systems which would give their customer flexibility and allow them to produce the covers to fit the demands of the business.

The two conveyors were 40 metres in length, using software developed by KPI engineers, which allowed Bentley to highlight inconsistencies in the process and alert line personnel to the issue.

Phil Cornell, managing director at KPI, who set up the firm in 2003, said: “As with all projects, there were a number of logistical issues.

“But our expertise in the car industry allowed us to use our skills to benefit the customer.

“Everything about the Bentley brand says luxury and we had to produce a system which could cope with their demands.

“This project took the business to a new level within the industry and opened our eyes to what could be achieved, and to have Bentley as a partner is a great coup for the company.”

KP Industries have designed and built bespoke conveyor systems for various manufacturing companies and have worked with firms including Leyland Motors, JCB, Jaguar and Balmoral over the past decade.

The Bentley deal has helped KPI’s turnover top the £3million mark for the first time this year.
