Kelly hopes to N-Trance new year revellers
THE New Year will be welcomed in with a bang with two fireworks displays in the town centre.
There will also be a free funfair, a superhero fancy dress disco for kids, circus performances and 90s dance star Kelly Llorenna of N-Trance and former Hacienda DJ Elliot Eastwick will be playing.
Mark Foxley, from Rochdale Town Centre Management, said: “These attractions in Rochdale town centre are another reason to come and celebrate the New Year in style. Both firework displays will be amazing and if you can see the town centre skyline, you will see the fireworks!”
The first firework display will take place some time after 5.30pm. The free funfair is open from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
Then from 10pm the night time entertainment kicks off on stage, with sets from DJ Elliot and Kelly, the voice of a stack of dance hits including 1995’s Set You Free who will be singing live before the second dazzling firework display as the town hall clock chimes midnight for the start of 2017.
There’ll also be a fireeating display, and the optional theme for the evening for party-goers who really want to get into the spirit is New York fancy dress.
Food and drink will be on sale.
After the fireworks, entertainment continues in the town’s pubs and clubs, with The Flying Horse Hotel hosting two floors of free entertainment, including rock/pop covers four piece The Tony Marshall Band until 1am.
Coun Janet Emsley, cabinet member for culture, health and wellbeing, said: “New Year’s Eve is always special in Rochdale and again there’s plenty of free entertainment for everyone, so it’s a perfect opportunity to stay local and come into town for a meal and to drink a toast to 2017.
“There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area, many offering good views of the fireworks.”
