Getting people off couch ... and on run

-

Name of Group?: fit and play football, hockey and swim, yet have never run. We have people who just want to get fitter and don’t want to run in the dark alone and we also have absolute beginners who want to run, but have never had the confidence to run alone.

Why was the group started?:

The group was started because the boxing gym is expanding and has a diverse range of fitness classes. I have been doing bootcamp and boxing for around five years, but have always been a runner and have managed to get a few of the members into running over the last 18 months. This year four of these ladies are doing the Manchester Marathon, which is amazing considering they hadn’t ever run previously. With the growing interest from the club, Mark and I decided it would be a good idea to start our own running club and this is my first Couch to What plans has the group got for the future?: Plans for the future are to hopefully encourage this group to carry on running beyond the 10 weeks and to join LABC Runners, who meet every Monday and Thursday at the club at 6.30pm. We are currently in the middle of becoming Affiliated to England Athletics. We plan to continue with the Couch to 5K groups throughout the year, the next group starting on Monday, March 27.
