Hamer’s happy Viking victory

-

AERON ‘The Viking’ Maddocks of Hamer Amateur Boxing Club traveled to the Riccall Regen Centre, near Selby, to take up the challenge of local boxer Riley Stesel of Selby Boxing Academy.

Right from the very first bell Stesel looked to impress his supporters and the judges when he stepped forward in a crouching stance while throwing and landing a big right hook to the head of Maddocks.

Stesel continued to stay in a tight, crouched stance with constant head movement as he came forward, looking to land his strong right hook to both the body and head, while Maddocks tried to maintain a slight distance from his opponent.

As the round progressed the Hamer youngster found his range and he began to land straight one-two combinations to the face of Stesel which forced the Selby lad onto his back foot.

Stesel continued to move forward while trying to land his big right hook, which he did, but with less frequency as Maddocks began to take control of the contest with his straighter punches that began to connect everytime his opponent moved into range.

Before the start of the second round, Maddocks was told by his coach Steven Connellan to take the fight to Stesel a little bit more and try to get him onto his back foot.

He was also told to continue with his straight punches down the middle while looking to avoid his opponent’s big right hook.

Aeron came out for the second round relaxed and ready to go. He had warmed to the task ahead now and had begun to land shots at will.

His brave opponent continued to push on but the Hamer youngster stepped back, half a step out of range every-time Stesel moved forward. Then Maddocks stepped back into range to land swift, textbook combinations.

By round three Stesel was becoming desperate and his hands began to slowly drop down upon his chest, which made the target easier for Maddocks who continued to knock his opponent’s head back with fast and accurate combination punches. Stesel became a little reckless as the contest moved on and he began to throw big, arching punches as he moved forward.

Most punches missed but on the odd occasion they did land, the crowd collectively jumped to their feet, hoping for some sort of success from their young man, but as the seconds in the round counted down Maddocks continued to land punches that knocked the Selby lad’s head back to win by unanimous decision.
