Paris called as Elodie proved a real class act

●●10 Years Ago STAR pupil was one step closer to becoming the next Brigitte Bardot after gaining a place at a prestigiou­s Parisian school.

From September, Elodie Letard of Oulder Hill Community School was set to attend the Elcar film school, having gained a place there following an audition.

Ahave won a place at the school. YOUTH thespians from Rochdale had a great time when they set off on a Finnish adventure.

Members of the M6 Youth Theatre which met at Hamer Primary School worked alongside youngsters from Teaterbitt­en, a youth theatre in Vaasa as part of a workshop residence.

They came up with a work called the Red Brick Reign.

It was based around the idea of the industrial revolution.

The group was also given a box of items by the Finnish actors and had to come up with a performanc­e based around them. ENVIRONMEN­TAL campaigner­s helped residents smarten up the streets of Wardlewort­h.

Groundwork was the latest group to get involved in a massive crusade to combat persistent fly-tippers and spruce up green spaces in the area.

Volunteers got to work in areas including the River Roch, land near Gowers Street and the woods at Belfield. ROCHDALE Magistrate­s’ Court said a fond farewell to Elaine Schofield, the longest-serving member of the Bench.

Mrs Schofield became a magistrate in 1973 when courts were held in Rochdale Town Hall before the purpose-built court next to the police station was built.

She took the decision to step down a few weeks before her 70th birthday, the maximum age for a magistrate.

She said: “I regret it in some ways but I think perhaps it’s long enough – lots of new people are coming through and they are very enthusiast­ic.” MP Jim Dobbin joined the fight to tackle climate change.

The MP who represente­d Heywood and Middleton joined other MPS to launch a joint statement on energy efficiency.

It set out 11 steps which could help the government’s ‘ultimate ambition’ of using every unit of energy as efficientl­y as possible.

A CLUB proved to be a s popular as ever after reopening its doors.

The Lower Chamber Cellar Club opened up to 200 teenagers after a revamp including a new bar serving soft drinks and a redecorati­on.

The club was to feature a group every Sunday and hold recording sessions on Tuesday and Thursday nights. SECRETS of Spanish wine making were uncorked for the members of Rochdale and District Amateur Wine makers Circle.

They watched a film about the fine wines which came from the south-west of the country including just north of Cadiz.

The evening also included details on the sherries produced from the region and local celebrator­y customs.
