MP Simon Danczuk has launched a campaign to highlight Rochdale’s ‘vibrant’ high streets.

Mr Danczuk, a vocal campaigner against ‘exborbitant’ business rates, says he is now ‘fighting to rejuvenate the high street’.

To kick off the campaign he visited Cakes n’ Shakes, a new business on Dale Street, Milnrow, specialising in ice cream and custom-made milkshakes.

Mr Danczuk said: “Cakes n’ Shakes is a fantastic and highly popular business which clearly has an exciting future ahead of it.

“It is a valuable addition to Milnrow’s high street and I wish it the best of success.”

Dale Street is also home to a butchers, takeaways and pubs, that all contribute to a thriving high street.

Mr Danczuk added: “The high street is the heart of the community.

“Our strong businesses are an excellent reason why Rochdale is a place where people should choose to live and work.

“But they need our backing.

“It’s not just about individual shops.

“I will be visiting a range of high streets and shopping parades across Rochdale to highlight the essential role they play in providing jobs and celebrate the contribution that they make to our town’s community spirit.

“Rochdale has a lot to offer.

“Working with the council, we have a proven track record of supporting local enterprise and increasing business rate returns for our area.

“There are great shops, pubs and cafes across the constituency, many of which I am a regular customer at.

“I firmly believe that this vibrant local economy is worth protecting, and I will do everything I can to see it grow.”
