Kilshaw able to take positives out of loss

-

DESPITE his side’s 20-6 defeat at home to Halifax on Sunday, Rochdale Hornets head coach Alan Kilshaw admits that there were some positives to take out of the game.

Hornets led in the match at the Crown Oil Arena, but Halifax came from behind to earn the victory and condemn Kilshaw’s men to defeat.

While the Hornets boss was unhappy with the loss, he felt there were some aspects of his side’s performance that pleased him.

“Our goal line defence and defence in general was good as we have only let in three tries and one of them was from a kick and another was when we only had 11 men on the field,” he said.

“They had three or four sets when we had 11 men and couldn’t get over the line, so there are definitely some positives.

“The effort and desire was there from the players but we just need to be smarter with the ball and show better composure.

“We weren’t good enough against some of their key players and I thought Scott Murrell bossed it for them, but we didn’t get that from our half backs.”

The loss to Halifax has left Kilshaw’s side fifth in the Championship table, having won two and lost two of their four games so far this season.

Hornets will now attempt to return to winning ways when they are back in action on Sunday as they make the trip to the Big Fellas Stadium to go up against second placed Featherstone Rovers.
