Dream TV role was up Emma’s Street
●●10 years ago ITTLEBOROUGH lass Emma Edmondson was gearing up for her Corrie debut.
The former Wardle High pupil had landed her dream role in the soap, playing Mel Morton.
She said: “Me and my family have watched Coronation Street for years so it’s all very surreal.”
LKIND-HEARTED pupils at Wardle High School were raising money for children living in the slums of India.
The school held a raffle in which children could win a top-of-therange television, in aid of the Walking Tall charity.
Robert Bush, 12, walked away with the telly after spending 50p of his bus money on a ticket. A MULTI-CULTURAL nursery was named among the best in Britain.
Howard Street Nursery was praised by Oftsed for its ‘outstanding’ work with asylum seeker children. Headteacher Lynda Barlow told the Observer half of the nursery’s 26 children ●●Pupils who were due to start at the new Redwood School were looking around their building while construction work went on spoke English as a second language.
She added: “The many cultures reflect the wider community and it is terrific.” TODDLERS brought a taste of the far east to Rochdale. Children at Newbank House nursery, Heyside, welcomed in the Chinese New Year with a feast of food and fancy dress. CHILDREN were given a sneak peak of their new school.
Pupils from Oulder Hill and Rochdale’s special schools took a tour of the new Redwood school in March 2007, before it opened the following September.
Oulder Hill headteacher Margaret Dudley said: “It’s been a very challenging time for everyone since the building work began, but the staff and young people at this school are fantastic.”
