Queensway trio advance to Liverpool
QUEENSWAY ABC trio go Ahid Khan, Zain Ahmed and Joe Crawford all moved on to the next round of the Junior National Championships in Liverpool after wins at the Birtley Boxing club in Newcastle.
Up first was Ahid Khan, who going into the fight was the underdog when he faced Hendon’s Robert Dunn.
Round 1 saw Ahid win comfortably judging the distance with ease and landing the clean shots.
Round 2 was a completely different story as Dunn regrouped and took the round with ease.
Going into the third both had it all to play for, it was a very scrappy round with both lads having success, the decision was a split win for Khan but it was very close and could have gone either way.
Next up was Zain Ahmed, who controlled all three rounds with his slick movement and cleaner shots coming out a clear winner.
To finish the day Joe Crawford was up against a very tall lad called Harry Dugdale of Grainger Park ABC.
From the bell it was clear Joe was a class above catching his opponent at every opportunity.
All three rounds passed the same giving him win number three of the day.
This wass a big boost for the club and spirits are high as we look to book ourselves a trip to London for the Semis and finals.
Coach John Finnerty said: “We already know who we are up against and it’s going to be a tough day for all three that’s for sure so it was straight back in to the gym on Monday for a week’s hard graft.”
