Clare to share romantic vision
GALLERY-VISITORS can watch an artist at work during a unique exhibition at Touchstones.
Heywood-raised Clare Kenny is creating a variety of new installations for her Industrial Romantic show next month.
The ‘bold installation’ is said to ‘draw not only on her childhood memories of growing up in Heywood and her new life in Basel, Switzerland, but also a collective experience shared by many’.
And she’s throwing open the doors to the gallery as she creates the exhibits, giving visitors a ‘unique insight into her working methods’.
Clare said: “I’m very excited to be back in such familiar surroundings to launch my first solo museum presentation and in such a wonderful museum.”
Mark Doyle, art gallery curator and collections manager at Touchstones, said: “We are delighted to be staging Clare Kenny’s first institutional exhibition in the UK.
“Having exhibited all over the world this will be the first time she has shown her work in the area she grew up in and has provided such a rich source of inspiration throughout her career.
“Her exhibition also marks the start of an exciting and hugely ambitious new chapter in the contemporary art programme here at Touchstones Rochdale and we can’t think of a better way to launch it than with Clare.”
Visitors can watch Clare at work from 2pm to 3.30pm on April 4-5 and from 10am to 11.30am on April 11-12.
Clare will also be talking about her practice and the exhibition with Francesca BertolottiBailey for the Liverpool Biennial on Saturday, May 27, from 2pm-3.30pm. Places are free but booking is required.
Industrial Romantic is showing at Touchstones from Thursday, April 13, to Saturday, July 8. Entry is free.
