Hopwood lads keep up unbeaten form

-

HOPWOOD Hall College’s first team fought back from 0-1 down to defeat league rivals Newcastleunder-Lyme College in an action packed 5-1 win.

Victory saw Hopwood Hall maintain their unbeaten league run, winning all 12 league games so far this season.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes, with a low drive into the bottom corner of Hopwood Hall’s net.

A quick response was needed from the home team, and Oumar Camara was on hand to provide with the 18 year old nodding home a free kick.

Then, seconds before the half time whistle, Camara was at it again – his shot ricocheting off the post into the path of Danny Cryer, who smashed the rebound into the net for Hopwood’s second.

The second half saw Hopwood begin to dominate the game. Jacob Frost, fresh from scoring two goals against FC United in the previous cup game, added to the score line following some great play down the right wing.

Not to let his impact on the game fade, Camara bagged another goal on the 72nd minute. The fifth and final goal came from Frost again, with a sweet left-footed drive finding the bottom corner.

Rob Johnson, head coach at Hopwood Hall’s Football Academy, said of his team’s performance: “This was a really pleasing win, playing some lovely pass-andmove football against very good opposition. We were always the better side in the second half after a mixed first half, the boys should be really proud of themselves to have maintained this winning run.”
