HIS indie and Madchester tunes have soundtracked match days at Spotland for 17 years.

But now ‘legendary’ Rochdale FC DJ Dave Sweetmore has announced he is stepping down at the end of the season.

Dave, who also DJs at indie nights across the north west, including a long-running stint at Tokyo in Oldham and Carson’s Bar in Middleton, is starting a new career as a pub and hotel manager in the Lake District.

He said: “Leaving Rochdale Football Club after 17 years is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make but I simply can’t turn down the opportunity to start a new career.

“The club has been a massive part of my life for such a long time and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I’ve met some amazing people through the years, who’ve made coming to the games an absolute pleasure. I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of messages I’ve received since the news was made public. I can’t thank everyone enough.”

A spokesperson from the club described Dave as a ‘legend’ adding: “We would like to thank Dave for his hard work and commitment over the last 17 years.

“His matchday music created a unique identity for the club, which received plaudits from fans and media alike, and he played a big part in creating a positive atmosphere at the Crown Oil Arena.

“We wish Dave the very best of luck and every success in the future, but he will, of course, be missed by everyone.”
