Shop owner has Swagger in step

-

MENSWEAR shop owner Ali Hasan certainly has a lot to boast about thanks to the council’s business rates reduction scheme.

For his Yorkshire Street store, Swagger, is going from strength-to-strength after he qualified for the scheme designed to help local businesses grow.

He said: “The support I’ve received from the council and town centre management has been brilliant.

“It’s not only led to high footfall to the shop, it’s also given me a high street presence and a shop frontage.”

Securing premises on the high street has been instrumental in Ali’s success since moving in May last year from the old market ground.

Council leader Richard Farnell, who recently paid a visit to the shop said: “Supporting local businesses like Swagger is what our business rates reduction scheme is all about.

“We’ve invested hundreds of millions of pounds into the town centre to make it a destination of choice for discerning shopper.

“But that will only work if we have a retail offer which people want. Ali’s brilliant business fits that mould perfectly.”

The business rates sale gives up to 80 per cent reduction in business rates for new shops opening in the Town Centre.

It has helped 22 new businesses open so far and seen the number of empty shop units fall.
