Alex Nuns, from Bamford, has secured an offer to study Geography at Oxford University this September.
The 17-year-old, who is currently studying A Levels in geography, environmental studies and biology at Bury College, underwent a gruelling selection process which involved submitting a personal statement, skills assessment and a process of interviews.
Alex, a former Oulder Hill pupil who wants a career in conservation, said: “I was so surprised when I received my offer letter through the post!
“I had always aspired to progress onto university but it was my Bury College mentor who advised me about the different opportunities at the University of Oxford and encouraged me to apply.”

Alex added: “The university trips I experienced gave me a great insight into what university entailed.
“I am really enjoying my time at Bury College and I have fantastic tutors.
“The Mentoring for Excellence scheme has taught me that anything is within my reach and I have been supported to reach my goals.”
