Prowess from the spot earns Boro Trophy

- BEN SIMMONDS

THE Chris Shyne Memorial Trophy final saw Littleborough run out with the silverware, despite a 1-1 after 90 minutes against Highfield.

Boro’s penalty practice was enough to see them clinch a 4-2 shootout win.

Jake Wilkinson opened the scoring for Boro after sliding the ball past the keeper late in the first-half.

However, Highfield responded in the second-half to take the tie straight to penalties.

Boro manager, Jamie Roche said: “I’m really proud of the lads who have put a massive effort in throughout the season.

“At the start of the season it looked like Littleborough was going to fold with no one to take the reins of the club.”

As a result, Roche, who has played for Littleborough since 16 years old decided to take the club on.

“It’s taken some doing but we have built two quality teams now with a lot of under 19 players. So being able to win a trophy in our 1st season is a massive achievement and a fantastic platform to build in for next season.”

Middleton Town’s 12-0 win against Wardleworth was enough for them to secure the Newbold Tyres Premier Division Title for the fourth season on the bounce.

This championship is Colt’s fifth title in total and the team is also vying for their second consecutive treble in all competitions.

Impressively, Middleton have also been crowned champions of champions after winning the Lancashire based competition, a feat they have been unable to achieve in the past.

Middleton’s success is no-doubt due to the hours spent on the training ground and the dedication displayed by both players and their manager Paul Hindley.

Hindley spoke after his sides’ success this weekend, “we still fight for every point, trophy and championship as one team and it is a credit to the lads that we are still hungry for success.
