Testing times for Calland’s boys

-

MAYFIELD have a tough fixture today in more ways than one.

There are no easy games in the Kingstone Press NCL premier Division and there are certainly no easy games in Hull where Mayfield are heading today to face Skirlaugh.

Just to compound matters, Mayfield have lost their last two outings, away at second division Oulton and at home to Thatto Heath. So today’s game is a real tester for Matt Calland’s side.

Last week’s loss was a bitter pill to swallow after throwing away a 12-point lead. They will be hoping things go better and they get back some of the form that saw them do so well last season.

A team packed with so much talent, Mayfield have failed to ignite on a couple of occasions and it has cost them dearly. The youngsters in the side are still impressing and it’s just a matter of time before they gel as a side and put together a run of consistency. When that happens the team will begin to climb the table into the play off spots where they should be.

Calland and Sam Butterworth will hold on before naming their side after picking a couple of injuries last week on top of what they were already carrying, Zac Baker and Zac Hartley were both missing last week along with James Shaw – at least two of these should be fit for today’s game and others will be going through their paces before selection.

Today’s fixture NCL prem, Skirlaugh v Mayfield ko 2.30pm
