Animal lovers take new career path

-

TWO mature students are set to embark on new careers.

Sharon Hadnum and Emma Hampton have become animal nursing assistants, after successfully completing courses at Hopwood Hall College.

The pair eventually hope to go on to become Registered Veterinary Nurses.

Emma, 37, from Rochdale, will be joining Valley Vet Care in Rochdale once she has completed her course this academic year.

Sharon, 45, from Middleton, will similarly be starting with Jackson and Nuttall in Middleton in a full-time role once she completes her course this year.

The two animal lovers met each other on the Hopwood Hall course last year, after both decided they wanted to move into a new career path.

Sharon said: “It was a bit of an anxious feeling going back to college as a mature student.

“You don’t know how it will be, being on a course with loads of students younger than you.

“But all the students at Hopwood have been brilliant socially and I’m really glad I took the plunge. I’m just really excited to start my new career and hopefully progress to one day be a trained veterinary nurse.”

Emma added: “Based on my experience, I really recommend that people who may be hesitant about retraining commit to it.

“The tutors have been very supportive and have taught me a huge amount, not just in my animal management course, but in maths and English too.

“I don’t have a bad word to say about the studying experience.”
