Warriors Anna and Liam crowned national champs

-

ROCHDALE Warriors have two SKU national champions.

Members from the Trafalgar Street club took part in the event at the EiS in Sheffield, which drew competitors from far and wide. Warriors took medals in both kata and fighting.

Anna Forbes won gold in individual Kata and bronze in pairs kata in the mixed pairs brown and black belt 16 plus years category with her sister Jennifer.

And Liam Ellis won gold in Kumite (fighting).

Melissa Butterworth won silver in pairs kata in the mixed pairs brown and black belt 10 to 15 years section with her brother Kyle. And Kyle also went on to win bronze in Kumite.

Matt was their coach, who worked hard throughout the day to ensure these wins.

Warriors chief instructor, Sensei Damien McLaughlin 8th Dan, is extremely proud of his students who he said had to be at the top of their game to come away with any medals.

Anyone interested in taking up the sport of karate can visit the club’s website, www. rochdalewarriors.co.uk or contact Damien (instructor) on 07504 858963 or just go along to have a chat.

The club trains twice a week, Tuesdays (8-9.30pm) and Saturdays (12-1.30pm).
