Stags strike back after first defeat

-

NORDEN bounced back from defeat at Glodwick to comfortably beat Heyside at Stag Park on Sunday.

Heyside were bowled out for 116, and Norden went on to win by six wickets.

Chris McDonnell was first to go when Steve Pimm took a catch, and four runs later visiting professional Bilal Khiljee was on his way, bowled by Chris Hartley with a delivery that clipped the top of the stumps.

Hartley struck again when he had Ben Holt caught behind by Ashley Gowers, and Heyside never really recovered from these early blows.

It looked as though Heyside would fail to reach three figures, especially when Scott Bloor fell to the Zamurad-Gowers combination and Matthew Chadwck was leg before to Hashum Malik.

But Declan Wilkinson made the total a bit more respectable with a knock of 27.

He was last man out after Danny Cashin had been bowled by Zamurad.

Heyside’s only hope was to get among the Norden batting early, and Khiljee trapped Rehan Udwadia leg before for two.

But by then Norden had 20 on the board, with Josh Tolley in full flow.

Tolley smacked three sixes in his 39 before being bowled by Danny Cashin who was Heyside’s most impressive bowler on the day.

Naveed Zamurad punished any lose deliveries with eight fours and two sixes.

He looked set for a maiden half century for Stags, but on 47 he played on a delivery from Cashin.

Steve Pimm was run out after going for a quick single that was never on, and that left Gowers and Dominic Humphreys to see Norden over the line with almost 30 overs to spare.

The Stags had tasted defeat for the first time this season when they travelled to Glodwick on Saturday.

Norden totalled 225 for nine, but should really have had more on the board.

Josh Tolley hit 86 after fellow opener Simon North had been trapped leg before by Franco Lenhardt only two balls into the innings.

Naveed Zamurad scored 33 before going leg before to Rehan Rafique, while Ash Gowers hit 37 and Dominic Humphreys 35.

At one stage Glodwick were 79 for five in reply, Hashum Malik just missing out on a hat-trick, but the dangerous Rafique was still there.

The professional steadily pushed the score along then exploded to destroy Norden’s spin attack.

Jamie Symonds and Brad Heap provided willing partners as Glodwick close on their target which was achieved with Rafique unbeaten on 100 (10 fours and five sixes).
