AMAN has been charged with death by dangerous driving after a popular teenage girl died following a car crash.

Jack Charles Thomas, 19, will appear in court next month in connection with the smash in Rochdale in November which killed Talaina Hussain, 18.

Mr Thomas, of Mountside Close, Shawclough, Rochdale, has been bailed to appear at Manchester and Salford magistrates court on Tuesday, July 11.

Talaina had been the front seat passenger in a Peugeot 206 which crashed into a wall in Dewhirst Road, Syke, on November 14 last year.

She was taken to hospital with major head injuries but lost her battle for life two days later.

In a tragic twist, it emerged that Talaina, of Balderstone, was friends with Chloe Cockton, the 16-year-old who also died in a car crash near Asda in Rochdale town centre last summer.

Both girls went to St Cuthbert’s RC High School.

In a statement released at the time of her death, Talaina’s family said: “Anybody that knew our daughter would tell you she could light up any room without trying with those big brown eyes. ●●Tributes left for Talaina Hussain (inset), at the scene of the car crash in Syke in November that resulted in her death

“She was a fantastic sister and her mother’s best friend. Our daughter had the biggest heart of gold.

“Her laugh was so infectious.

“We are absolutely devastated and time will never heal our broken hearts. She is our shining diamond and now she is shining far.

“We cannot thank family and friends enough for their support.”

Following her death it emerged Talaina’a family had agreed to donate her organs.

A spokesman for St Cuthbert’s School said: “Our school community are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Talaina.

“Talaina is fondly remembered by us all and she will be deeply missed.

“We would like to offer the deepest of sympathy to Talaina’s family and friends as we remember them in our prayers.”

Talaina was studying health and social care at Hopwood Hall College.

Carole Fallon, programme manager of health and social care, said: “I have known Talaina since she joined us in September 2015 and she has been an outstanding student during her time with us.

“She was always very supportive with her peers and a well-liked individual across the whole of the college community.”

Nicola Kelly, Talaina’s personal tutor, added: “Talaina was the life and soul of her class and an excellent role model who will be dearly missed. I will always hold fond memories of her, she was a truly excellent student.” BUILDING work has started on 33 new homes on the site of an old mill in Littleborough.

The site off Halifax Road was formerly occupied by Frankfort Mill, but had fallen into disrepair in recent years before planning permission was approved for new homes.

Christine Kynaston, sales and marketing director for developer Prospect Homes, said: “We are proud to be regenerating this derelict site into a much-needed new homes development and to deliver a scheme which will improve the overall landscape of the area.

“Our plans have been carefully thought out to mimic certain design aspects of the existing character in the village and are set to redevelop a formerly disused site in a highly sustainable location in Littleborough.

“The first phase of sales releases have now been launched off-plan and buyers can visit our nearby site in Rochdale to find out more about the homes at Lockside.

“We are now looking ahead to progressing the building work onsite, and seeing this once rundown area be transformed into a collection of new homes.”

The estate will include three and four-bedroom homes.

All 33 of the new homes on the site will be available to purchase through the government’s Help to Buy loan scheme
