Store robbers hit worker with wrench
ROBBERS hit a shop worker over the head with a car wrench before stealing cash and cigarettes.
Two men walked into Shaw Road Convenience Store, in Shaw and threatened a member of staff with a knife.
The men then beat the member of staff with a wrench before fleeing from the scene in a silver Fiat Punto.
They made off with a quantity of stolen cash and cigarettes.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
Police are linking the incident to a robbery that took place in the same shop on June 18, 2017.
The incident took place at 1.55pm on Wednesday, June 21, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Investigators have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection to the investigation.
Det Con Matthew Adshead said: “This was a brutal assault which has left a man in hospital with a very serious head injury all for the sake of a quick payday.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have informa- tion that can assist us with our enquiries, particularly if they can help us identify the man in this image.
“If you think you know this man or if you recognise it to be yourself then I would urge you to please contact the police.”
