I’m honoured to be re-elected as MP

-

I WAS humbled and honoured to be re-elected as the MP for Heywood and Middleton with an increased majority in the general election.

The election campaign was, of course, put into sharp perspective by the horrific terror attacks in Manchester and London.

I think it was right that the election went ahead as planned – we have to show the cowards behind such acts that our way of life and our democracy will not be beaten by them and their twisted ideology.

Our emergency services and many ordinary members of the public reacted with bravery and compassion at the scene of both atrocities and they deserve our thanks and admiration.

In this election I was proud that our Labour manifesto offered hope instead of tax cuts for millionaires and pay cuts for everyone else.

Labour offered a credible, fully-costed plan for a better way of doing things for the many, not the few.

People have quite clearly had enough of Tory cuts to essential local services, including the police, fire, and social care.

We are now faced with a minority government propped up by the hard-line Democratic Unionist Party – a true ‘coalition of chaos’ – and we have a Prime Minister most in her own party would like rid of, with Boris Johnson lurking in the shadows.

In contrast, I am delighted to say that we have a strong and united Labour Party to hold this failing and weak government to account.

The campaign showed what can be achieved when we are united and I have no doubt that will continue.

I am determined to represent everyone in Heywood, Middleton, Bamford, Castleton and Norden to the best of my ability. Please get in touch if I can be of any help.
