Children’s charities awarded £57,000

TWO charities working with disadvanta­ged youngsters in Rochdale have been awarded £57,000 by Children in Need.

Deeplish Community Centre Associatio­n has been given £30,000, over three years, to run a holiday playscheme.

It will include sports, arts and crafts, drama and photograph­y.

Elsewhere, Khubsurat Dunya Community Group has been awarded £27,000, over three years, to run outdoor activities, such as countrysid­e and forest walks, treasure hunts, camp and bush crafts along with basic first aid training. Khubsurat Dunya Community Group chair Feaz Akhtar-Black said: “We’re really pleased to have been awarded this new funding from BBC Children in Need which will allow us to make a positive difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in Rochdale.”

“The competitio­n for our grants is always extremely high but these applicatio­ns really demonstrat­ed the impact they would have on the young people that need it most in the local area.”
