THE Dale and the Hornets have joined forces to enter this year’s Rochdale in Bloom.

Last Saturday, volunteers helped to transform the area of land at the back of the Crown Oil Arena’s Sandy Lane stand into a both bright and colourful ‘Wonder Wall’.

It will be entered in the North West In Bloom competition and also form part of the Rochdale Township entry.

The judges will visit the Crown Oil Arena on July 31.

No other Football League club is represented in the 2017 In Bloom competition.

The work was made possible thanks to Gordon Riggs Garden Centre who donated more than £1,000 of plants and Green Cloud IT who paid for £500 worth of top soil.

Frances Fielding, Dale’s sales and market- ●●volunteers helped transform the area of land at the back of Rochdale FC’s Crown Oil Arena’s Sandy Lane Stand into a bright and colourful ‘Wonder Wall’ to enter in the In Bloom contest ing manager, said: “It was a brilliant day. We were very lucky with the weather and it was incredible to see everybody working together to transform the site.

“I am very proud of what everybody achieved and, on behalf of Rochdale Hornets chief executive Adam Bates and Roy Down, Rochdale In Bloom vice chairman, I would like to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who made this happen.

“Special thanks to Roy Down and Paul Ellison who organised the planting event and councillors Peter Winkler, Wendy Cocks, Cecile and Surinder Biant and Billy Sheerin who all came down to show their support, as well as Rochdale Town Centre manager Mark Foxley, the Duke of Edinburgh volunteers and everybody else who turned up to either donate plants or help with the digging, raking and planting.

“The Wonder Wall looks amazing and we’ve got just over a month before the judges arrive so there’s plenty of time for the plants to establish.

“We would like to make this an annual event and ensure the site is kept well maintained in the future.”
