Primeval duo join star cars to pull in sci-fi fans
SCI-FI stars and some of Hollywood’s most iconic vehicles rolled into Rochdale for this year’s Comic-Con.
Primeval’s Hannah Spearritt and AndrewLee Potts and James MacKenzie, star of CBBC series Raven helped pull in more than 1,000 comic book and sci-fi fans to the event at the Crown Oil Arena.
Outside the school bus from The Simpsons and Lightning McQueen from Cars greeted guests, alongside Wonder Woman and the Ghostbusters, who were checking tickets.
There were also dance-offs from the likes of Marvel’s HulkBuster and BumbleBee from the Transformers and the many children in costume.
Inside, the movie props just couldn’t get any bigger with a Hulk that nearly burst through the roof of the Carlsberg Lounge along with the Wampa from Empire Strikes Back, Jabba the Hutt and a Joker mannequin.
Organiser Martin Ballard said: “We rebranded the event this year to DC5 after meeting our initial goal of bringing Dale Arden, and Flash Gordon, to Rochdale in 2016, so this year and the years going forward we’ve moved the focus on to DC.
“Whether that’s the Detective Comics or Dale-Con is where we’ll leave people guessing.
“All in all, it was a great family, fun day out and plans are already in place for Rochdale Comic-Con: DC6.”
Winner of the cosplay contest was Harmony Franklin, seven, who dressed up as Harley Quinn, from Suicide Squad, and Destin Holmes Critcheley, three, who came as Wolverine.
