New parade starts to take shape
WORK to transform the centre of Kirkholt is continuing apace.
It will see a new parade of shops and a community centre with a range of facilities built on The Strand, delivered by a partnership between Rochdale Borough Council and RBH.
A total of 16 new apartments for affordable rent are also being built as part of the scheme, which is the Rochdale council and RBH.
Greater Manchester based Bardsley Construction began construction in early 2017 and the new buildings are now beginning to take shape.
Construction is expected to be complete by next summer.
Clare Tostevin, RBH director of communities, said: “We’re delighted with the progress of this landmark development which will help to revitalise the heart of Kirkholt, providing high-quality shops, homes and community facilities.”
Council leader Richard Farnell said: “It’s really great to see the work progressing well and reassuring to know that the project is on schedule.
“There’s a real buzz about what’s happening on Kirkholt and everyone’s looking forward to seeing the work completed.” ●●Daniel Wood (RBH development and regeneration programme manager), Coun Daniel Meredith, Coun Richard Farnell, Coun Kathleen Nickson, Andrew Johnson (Vice chair of the RBH representative body) and Clare Tostevin (RBH director of communities) check work on the Strand
