Towncroft to host final

-

MIDDLETON’S Towncroft ground will stage the final of the Pennine League’s JW Lees Bitter Wood Cup on Sunday 6 August, with Rochdale up against Crompton.

It is being put around that this will be the last ever Wood Cup final, but there are plans being put into place to keep this and the Tanner Cup going after the Pennine League folds at the end of the current season.

Toss of a coin decided the venues for three other Pennine cup finals on Tuesday night.

The Tanner Cup final venue was originally named as Norden’s Stag Park, but Norden felt it was wrong for them to be named as hosts while they were still in the competition at the semi-final stage, and that a more traditional and appropriate way would be for the finalists to toss up for venue.

The toss resulted in a final between Heyside and Norden at Little Hey Street on Sunday 13 August.

The 2nd X1 Burton Cup final between Glodwick and Middleton will be at Glodwick on Saturday 22 July. On the same day Heyside will host Saddleworth in the 2nd X1 Moore Cup final

Following last weekend’s semi-finals it is back to league action with a double-header this weekend.
