A whole season of top comedians

- Steve@aata.me

THIS year’s autumn comedy season brings household names Paul Chowdhry, Jason Manford, Lee Nelson, Ed Byrne and Dave Spikey to our borough.

First up will be Paul Chowdhry on Thursday, September 7, with Live Init.

His most recent tour was extended three times due to audience demand.

A keen and talented actor, Paul has also had feature film roles in titles such as Swinging With The Finkels alongside Martin Freeman and Jerry Stiller, Colour Me Kubrick with John Malkovich and Rogue Trader with Ewan McGregor and Anna Friel.

Jason Manford will appear on Tuesday, October 3, in Muddle Class (Work in Progress), which is already sold out.

He is releasing his debut album featuring show tunes inspired by his musical theatre career.

Jason has performed in smash hit stage shows such as Olivier Awardwinning Sweeney Todd, in which he played Italian barber Adolfo Pirelli.

He also appeared as Caractacus Potts in the UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and a took a star turn as Leo Bloom in The Producers.

A Different Stage will feature some of the songs he has performed in these productions, alongside childhood favourites and other songs close to his heart.

Lee Nelson will arrive on Friday, October 13, with Serious Joker.

Simon Bodkin’s alter ego, Lee is famously un-PC.

He has been on television in programmes such as From Baghdad to Balham (Channel 4), Al Murray’s Multiple Personality Disorder (ITV), Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show (BBC Three), Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford (ITV), Live at the Apollo (BBC One) and Lee Nelson’s Well Funny People (BBC Three).

Monday, November 20, will bring Ed Byrne’s Spoiler Alert.

Ed has features in more factual television work. He travelled to Central America to co-host the adventurous travel show, Dara and Ed’s Great Big Adventure with Dara O’ Briain, and drove across Siberia with Andy Parsons for an episode of World’s Most Dangerous Roads.

In a recent interview with me, Ed was still bubbling about his experiences, which he assured me will come up in Spoiler Alert.

On Friday, November 24, Dave Spikey will be Juggling on a Motorbike.

The year 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of Dave’s comedy career. He will be looking back on his remarkable life and his incredible journey from working class lad to comedy performer and writer via Phoenix Nights, Eight out of Ten Cats, Bullseye, Dead Man Weds, Magnolia, The Royal Variety Show, Parkinson and many more.
