Student successes buck national trend

-

THE borough’s students have bucked the national trend with their top marks in A-Level results.

A total of 747 students across the borough took a total of 1,976 A-levels in 2017, with provisional results showing 98.3 per cent of students achieved grades A* to E, up 3.5 per cent on last year. Rochdale has performed better that the national pass rate of 97.9 per cent, which went down 0.2 per cent on the previous year.

The percentage of students gaining grades A* and A also went up this year, with 22.6 per cent achieving the top two marks, an increase of 1.1 per cent on 2016.

The percentage of students gaining three or more A-levels at grades A* to E in 2017 was more than two-thirds of the borough’s students at 69.4 per cent.

Councillor Donna Martin, portfolio holder for children’s services praised the achievements of the students.

She said: “These are fantastic results for our students and they should be very proud of all their hard work.

“To be bucking the national trend is a great achievement for the borough so a huge thanks to the students, staff at our colleges and sixth forms, parents and guardians who all work hard to support students in their A-Levels.”

For those students where results weren’t as expected there is help and options out there.
