Day helps to make senses more aware

-

DISPLAYS from guide dogs, free hearing tests and a special visit from the fire service.

These were just some of the many attractions on offer at the council’s popular sensory awareness day at its Number One Riverside building.

Scores of people from across the borough and beyond attended the annual event, which promotes services available for people with hearing, sight and speech impairments.

There were information stalls from numerous partner organisations including Action for Blind, Action on Hearing Loss, NHS and the Community Learning Disabilities Team.

Experts from the council’s hard working sensory team were also on hand throughout the day to answer people’s questions about how they can access sensory information and advice.

Tracey Little, team leader in adult services, said: “It was a really well supported event with people from across the Rochdale borough and beyond attending.

“I would like to thank all our partner agencies for contributing to such a successful day, which underlined our commitment to delivering a sensory awareness service to be proud of.”

Coun Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult services, said: “We are committed to providing a sensory service that ensures people with impairments have access to the best quality information and advice.

“The event showed the council at its best, working with partners to deliver a service to be proud of. I thought it was a well organised and attended day. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed.”
