Ollie’s rise in status makes club history

-

EAST Lancs riders achieved some great results over the weekend in a wide variety of races.

Oliver Huszar capped a fantastic season to date by riding and winning the Derby GP Scratch Race at the new velodrome in Derby.

Taking on a good field of riders Ollie took the spoils, which was a good result in itself, but of greater significance were the points won which took Ollie above 200 points in the year, which elevated him to 1st Cat status.

Ollie is the first East Lancs rider in the club’s history to achieve this feat and it is very well deserved for the hard work he has put in this year.

On Saturday Swift CC promoted their 10 mile time trial on the V718 course near Hull.

On a good day the East Lancs fielded two riders in the event with Bill Howarth recording 24:30mins for a good ride, but the honours must go to Georgina Cape who recorded 23:15mins with a great ride to break the club’s 30 year old women’s record at this distance.

Georgina will now target the 25 mile women’s TT record.

There were several other good time trial performances with the following times recorded in the Withington Wheelers event on the seldom used J6/10 course near Siddington in Cheshire; Dave Ireland, 26:54mins; Karen Bailey, 28:35mins; and Roy Neild, 24:33mins.

To complete the road racing, Ben Trippier rode the 60 mile Squadra CC Race near York on Sunday.

The race averaged 23mph on a lumpy course with no break away being able to establish itself and so on the last of six laps the peloton was all together until a rider from Buxton CC rider slipped away almost unnoticed to take the win, with Ben leading the bunch sprint up hill to the finish to secure third place.

The club fielded two car assisted rides over the weekend in addition to the normal social rides, both of which were well attended.
