Passengers rate airport terminals among worst

TWO Manchester Airport terminals have been named among the worst in the country in a new survey.

Consumer magazine Which? has rated each of the country’s airports, asking passengers for their views on several factors including queues at passport control and baggage reclaim, range of shops and also staff.

Manchester Airport’s terminals one and three were rated fifth and third worst in the country respectively.

Terminal one scored the lowest possible mark for queues at security and prices at shops and food outlets.

Airport bosses pointed to the small sample size.

They also pointed out that the airport is cur- rently undergoing a multi-million pound renovation programme, which they say will vastly improve facilities for an ever-growing number of passengers.

Some 219 people responded to the survey about terminal three and 402 to the questionnaire on terminal one.

The Which? article reads: “You weren’t impressed by any of the Manchester terminals. Even the airport’s flagship, long-haul T2 (53 per cent) only managed a middling score.

“Security queues came in for particular criticism and were particularly poor at T3 (43pc), described by one reader as ‘the poor relation of the Manchester terminals’. A number of you felt Manchester airport is just too small for the number of passengers it now handles.

One said: ‘There’s never anywhere to sit. Last time we travelled from there we had to stand up to eat.’”

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: “We value all customer feedback and are continually looking at ways to improve service levels across our terminals.

“Transforming the passenger experience is a key driver of our £1bn investment programme, which will provide users with a state-of-the-art, spacious and welcoming facility capable of ~ handling more than 40 million passengers a year.

“Work is under way and the vast majority of the improvements will be complete by 2020.”

The scores for all but two large airports, catering for more than 10 million passengers a year, were down on 2016.
