Visitors to opening day victory at Eccles

-

home side reduced the arrears before the interval and the teams went in with Boro leading 10-8.

Boro were next on the scoresheet with a second half penalty from Roberts. When Boro’s Park received a yellow card Eccles failed to take advantage, missing the resultant penalty. But they made up for it shortly after when they went over the line for their second try, unconverted, to make it 13-13.

Roberts maintained his form with two more successful penaltyies and Boro had got the bit between their teeth.

They again put together another great passing movement, including Adam West who had come off the subs bench, which resulted in their second try by Jack Whittles and converted by Roberts.

Goldthorpe almost reached the tryline for a third in a move that ended with further penalty success from Roberts.

However the opposition hadn’t finished yet and a good rolling maul by their forwards brought them another try.

Before the game was out, Boro again demonstrated great ball handling in their backs, again resulting in a further try, this time from winger Liam Lloyd.

A club spokesman said: “This performance by Boro was a pleasure to watch and all the 18 players who at some time took to the pitch are to be congratulated in their positive effort and surely non more so than Man of the Match on his debut game, Senior Colt George Roberts, scoring one try, converting two and kicking five penalties, bringing his total points score to 24!”
