HIS year, Whitworth Community High School saw fantastic success as it achieved its best ever grades in English and Maths. Adding to this was the fact the school was recently awarded ‘Good’ in its Ofsted inspection.

This reflects the ambitious and caring nature of the school, which is committed to academic excellence and its “climbing higher” motto.

With the most recent results released, the school is proud to announce that more than 70 per cent of students achieved at least the new grade (grade C equivalent) in both English and Maths, and 69 per cent achieved at least five A*-C grades, including English and Maths at new grade 4. Meanwhile, Computing, DT Food and Music all achieved 100 per cent at grade C and above. Religious Studies – taken by almost all students – achieved a fantastic 80 per cent at A*-C, with 43 per cent of grades at A*/A. As an ambitious school, Whitworth Community High School continues on its exciting journey – achieving new heights; pursuing new goals; and setting itself greater challenges to ensure the school community continues to move forwards. Families who responded to the Ofsted questionnaire were overwhelmingly positive, with 100 per cent of them saying they would recommend “Each improvement quickly becomes a stepping stone for the next – there’s no complacency, just a drive for stellar achievement, by staff and students” the school to another parent. (Ofsted 2015) This attitude was reflected in the parental comments. “I am really impressed with the school and the good relationships staff have with students and parents. I would recommend the school to everyone,” said one Y10 parent in July 2017.

Meanwhile, Ofsted’s safeguarding team said: “The work the school does to keep its pupils safe is exemplary. This is a school that values individuals, recognising that everyone is different but equal.”

When it comes to improvements, the school’s effective rewards systems; restorative work; new school skirt and tie; and improved facilities have all been driven by the stakeholder voice and the strong school council, which has a clear vision of what they want school to be.

Whitworth has high aspirations for its young people and the ‘Seven Respects’ underpin the ethos and define the high expectations, while home-learning booklets and learning journals both strengthen the homeschool partnership and promote independent learning.
