Gran is found dead – man charged
AKINGSWAY MAN has been charged with murder after a grandmother-of-three was found dead.
Glen Gibbons, 51, was due to appear in court following the discovery of Linda Parker’s body at a terrace house in Heywood on Monday.
Gibbons, of Bingley Square, Kingsway, was due before Manchester magistrates’ court on Wednesday.
Police were called to a house in Atholl Drive on the Darnhill estate at about 12.30pm following a report of a concern for a person’s welfare.
Officers and paramedics arrived and discovered Ms Parker, understood to be a mum-of-four, dead in the house.
Tributes have been paid to the popular gran.
Writing on Facebook Carol Millar paid tribute to her ‘best friend’.
She said: “Devastated and heart broken. Gonna miss you so much, Linda. My best friend forever. R.I.P xx.”
Cath Eastham wrote: “RIP Linda, can’t believe you have gone, fly high hun xxxxx.”
Matty Parker wrote: “R.I.P lovely woman. And her son was a good school friend, terrible news.”
Neighbour Jackie Wilson, 52, said: “We’re devastated. She was so nice, polite and friendly although she did really keep herself to herself in the neighbourhood. But when we spoke she was always really nice to get on with.”
Another neighbour added: “We are just devastated. She was a really lovely woman.
“She was really wellknown in the area and had lived here all her life. Her family’s well-known too, it’s very, very sad.”
Police officers and crime scene investigators in forensic suits remained at the scene yesterday and the house was still cordoned off.
Officers could be seen searching gardens and grass verges.
Supt John-Paul Ruffle said: “We have launched a murder investigation and are appealing to anyone who may have any information that could help our investigation to get in touch with police as soon as possible. We will be carrying out a number of enquiries in the area.
“I would encourage anybody who has any concerns or information about what happened to approach one of these officers.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 849 of September 25, or alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
