TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved motorcyclist who died following a horror rushhour crash involving three cars.

Rochdale warehouse worker Karl Hope, 25, was riding his Kawasaki motorbike along Chadderton Way in Oldham when it smashed into two cars.

Mr Hope was then thrown into a third car, a green Ford Fiesta.

The Fiesta drove off after the collision and police launched an investigation to trace the vehicle and driver.

A 43-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Police said he was released pending further investigations.

The smash happened at around 5.20pm on Friday as Mr Hope was riding to work at the JD Sports warehouse in Rochdale.

Witnesses said doctors and nurses ran out from the nearby Royal Oldham Hospital to help Mr Hope and give him first aid.

Mr Hope was taken to hospital with multiple injuries, but sadly died.

His family were too upset to speak about his death last night.

Touching tributes have been paid to Mr Hope on Facebook.

Steven Collingwood said: “R.I.P. Karl, ride hard with the angels. My thoughts to all the family. Gone too soon.”

Mike Brooks posted: “R.I.P. Karl. I’ll miss you, mate. You were an awesome guy.”

Mr Hope had been living with his girlfriend in Oldham town centre.

It is believed his black motorbike first hit the back of a black MercedesBenz before it crashed into a black Mini. He was then thrown into the green Ford Fiesta.

Pc Paul Joynson, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “My thoughts are with Karl’s family at this devastating time.

“This is such a tragedy. We are now appealing for people to come forward and tell us what they saw.

“This happened in rush-hour traffic, people will have witnessed this horrific collision. A man has tragically lost his life.

“I want to be in a position to give his family the answers they deserve.”

A GMP spokesman added: “A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has since been released under investigation.”
