Parking rap sparks social media storm

-

POLICE in Oldham sparked quite a reaction on social media after posting a picture of a Landrover Discovery completely blocking the pavement.

GMP Royton and Shaw posted the image on their Facebook page showing the large car parked at an angle across the pavement on Hall Street in Royton.

The post read: “This Landrover Discovery has been issued with a ticket for causing an unnecessary obstruction in Royton.

“Please do not park on the pavement.”

It provoked more than 160 comments from followers debating whether the ticket was warranted.

One reader suggested that anger towards the driver is the result of sour grapes.

“People get bitter when there’s a nice car on here,” she said.

“If this was a battered up old car everyone would be saying how horrible the police are for giving them a ticket.”

However, many others disagreed, saying drivers should be penalised for causing an obstruction.

One replied that her mother and her daughter are registered blind and have to deal with ‘outrageous’ parking on a daily basis.

Many others had examples of their own of areas where inconsiderate parking regularly occurs. ●●The image posted on the GMP Royton and Shaw Facebook page of a Landrover that was issued with a ticket for causing an unncessary obstruction
