ATEENAGER has been charged with manslaughter following the ‘one-punch’ death of a dad in Rochdale.

Keith Maden, 59, was punched after an apparent confrontation with a group of youths outside a takeaway in the town centre.

He died later in hospital.

The incident took place outside Dixy Chicken on Reed Hill, off Yorkshire Street, at around 9.15pm on September 28.

Jafar Ali, 19, of Church Stile, Rochdale, has now been charged with manslaughter and will appear at Manchester and Salford magistrates’ court on Thursday, November 23.

Earlier this month Mr Maden’s brother John paid tribute to Keith and revealed that a stroke left him with limited use of one of his arms and a speech impediment.

Keith, one of eight siblings who was born in Blackpool, had walked to the takeaway from the Reed Hotel pub across the road, John said.

The father-of-one, who had been living with his mum in Littleborough, was only just starting to socialise and go out with friends again.

John said Keith suffered the stroke and a heart attack after he was admitted to hospital to have a growth removed.

He said he had a reaction and suffered a bleed while under anaesthetic and spent 10 days on life support.

John, 58, said: “In his day Keith was a fighter. But he could not use one arm and had a speech impediment.

“There is no way in this world that he would have confronted anybody. He could not have done.

“We do not know why this has happened or why they have done what they have done to Keith.

“Keith had been in the Reed probably three times in the last couple of months. He had an appointment in Rochdale, a medical appointment, on that day.

“He probably stopped in the Reed for a pint before getting the bus home.

“Keith is supposedly having a cigarette outside the Reed.

“He walks across the road to get some change from the takeaway somebody in the pub.

“He finishes his cigarette and puts it out on the floor. Then there is some sort of confrontation

“He was loved and supported by his mum, brothers and sisters, who are all heartbroken at losing him too soon and in such tragic circumstances.” for
