OAP, 83, is mugged while visiting wife in care home

AFRAGILE pensioner was mugged by thieves in a care home car park as he visited his wife.

The 83-year-old man was treated for shock by paramedics after the vicious daytime attack outside Shawside Residentia­l and Nursing Home.

Police said two men jumped out of what was thought to be a silver Vauxhall Zafira - and robbed the elderly man.

The thieves stole his wallet and drove off.

A GMP spokesman said the man was frail and was shaken by the attack.

The spokesman said: “At around 11.30am on Thursday 26 October 2017, police were called to reports that a man had been robbed outside a nursing home on Oldham Road, Shaw.

“Officers attended and establishe­d that an 83-year-old man had been robbed by two men. It is believed they pulled up in a silver Vauxhall Zafira before they robbed him.

“He was treated by paramedics at the scene for shock. An investigat­ion has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

“Officers will continue to patrol the area.”

Staff at the care home comforted the man until his family arrived.

“We’re supporting the police and would encourage anyone that knows anything to come forward.”
