Our green teams are credit to the borough

-

ONE of the nicest bits of my job (yes, there are some!) is receiving comments, letters and emails from residents with kind words and praise about Council staff and services.

This year, I have lost count of the number of compliments about how tidy the borough is looking.

There has been nothing but admiration for our hard-working Clean and Green teams who quickly remove flytipping and tackle grot spots.

The renovation of our town centre and the reopening of the River Roch have also received lots of positive comments.

But my biggest postbag this summer has been the universal praise for all the stunning floral displays around our borough.

The dedication of our council gardeners working in all weathers to produce some of the most stunning and imaginative displays.

And now, to top it all, the borough has just collected over two dozen awards in the Northwest In Bloom awards - our best ever tally yet!

It is all down to the hard work of scores of enthusiastic volunteers, local firms, voluntary groups ... and not forgetting our Council gardeners.

They all deserve our applause for making every corner of the borough shine - from Middleton to the Pennines; from Heywood to Rochdale.

They are a credit to our borough. Well done and a really big thank you. Richard Farnell Leader of the council

WALK AWAY WITHOUT DEAL

AS the E.U. continues to be intransigent over Brexit negotiations the British Government should be ready to walk away with no deal rather than agree to a bad deal.

If the U.K. agrees to a bad deal then Britain will be saddled with the terms for decades.

According to a Sky Data Poll 74% of the public believes that the country should walk away rather than accept a bad deal.

The Government should only accept a deal that benefits both sides and should be fully prepared to walk away without a deal if necessary.
