Leaders reap rewards for big changes

- BEN SIMMONDS

AFTER a tremendous 4-1 win against Coppice United, Wardle moved into the top spot of the Newbold Tyres Premier Division.

Their home win sees them register their fourth win in as many games since the season kicked off last month.

Wardle’s early success this season, is in no small part down to their solid defensive record, having only conceded two goals in their previous four encounters.

Sean Matthews, the Wardle Manager commented:

“We’ve brought new players in this season, and strengthened almost every area of our team.

“In addition a second manager has been added to the set-up to give us new ideas going forward.

“Hopefully the depth of our squad will enable us to win the league again this year!”

Elsewhere Highfields defeat at the hands of Manchester Brick Specialists saw them slip into second place in the division.

Despite the loss manager, Wayne Whitlow is still convinced his side will be challengers come the end of the season.

He said: “We were unlucky to lose today, part of the issue was that we did go down to ten men in the second-half and for me made a difficult challenge a lot harder.

“We now need to look forward to the next game.”

Meanwhile Littleborough also closed the gap on the league leaders Wardle with a 3-2 win over Middleton Town in the Newbold Tyres Division.

In the Sun Chemical Division One Cartshaft’s 3-2 win, which saw them move into second position, despite having played two more matches than their pursuers Wardleworth.

Similarly Oldham GPO registered yet another win after beating Avenue 1-0.

The result sees GPO sit just three points behind the league leaders.

The Sun Chemical Division Two results this weekend unveiled Catholic Club’s attempts to strive for a way out of the bottom three.

Catholic Club registered a 3-1 win against Woodhouse United, which was their first win of the new season.

Similarly at the other end of the table Sportsman cemented their position at the top of the division with a 3-1 win against strong outfit North Manchester Lions.

The RDSFL third division Littleborough CCFC built on their impressive start by securing a 2-0 win against FC Lowerhouse.

The win is their sixth in seven games during the season so far.

AFC Swan robustly registered a 2-2 win against Rochdale Dynamos, which could prove to be critical in their hopes of revitalising their season.

The Swans have struggled this season only managing two points thus far in their six played matches.
