FOOD, fashion and dance, brought a fun and family-friendly twist to Ashiana Housing Associatio­n’s tenants’ conference.

Highlights included Indian dance presentati­ons, Indian fashion shows, world food tasting, a drumming session and morris dancing.

Residents of the associatio­n, which is part of Great Places Housing Group, travelled from all over the North West to the day, which also included face painting, henna art and competitio­ns.

As well as activities and entertainm­ent, people also gave their input to the way their housing services are run.

The event, at Richmond Hall, was part of the wider efforts to make get-togethers for tenants more interestin­g.

Organiser Sadar Uddin, new initiative­s manager for Ashiana, said: “We talked to ●●Putting on the style at Asiana Housing Associatio­n’s tenants’ conference were models, from left, Asimah Iqbal, Samia Syeda, MariaLucia Di Mucci, Shazia Begum and Selina Chowdry residents about what they wanted for their day and this will be a real talking point.” SCOUTS got their hands dirty but cars sparkling clean to raise money for an expedition.

Rochdale pioneer explorer scouts teamed up with Carcraft’s Motorstore in Entwisle Road for the car wash event.

The money would fund necessary camping equipment for the scout trip.

Four of the scouts, aged between 14 and 18, mucked in, charging £3.50 per car.

They managed to raise £45 in just four hours.

Simon Russell, explorer scout leader, said: “We had a successful afternoon and we would like to say a big thank you to the Motorstore for helping to organise this and for providing the equipment.”

Shirley Thorpe, manager of Motorstore, said: “It was great to be able to help the scouts raise money for their camping trip.” PUPILS from Wardle, Whitworth and Falinge Park high schools hit all the right notes during a spectacula­r Broadway musical extravagan­za.

Youngsters were invited to attend the two-day concert organised by the British Army at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Members of the military bands across the country showcased their talents and demonstrat­ed the diversity that exists in a career as an army musician.

More than 500 students from North west schools took the opportunit­y to discuss a variety of army jobs and also met members of the King’s Division at the exhibition. BIRDS of prey paid a flying visit to the Rochdale and district branch of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Steve and Carol Davidson from Talons bird of prey centre in Warrington took along a tawny owl, peregrine falcon, eagle owl and harris hawk to the meeting at the Coach House.

Branch chairman Graham Bellenger said: “It was standing room only. Whenever you bring along live animals it always brings out the crowds and there were lots of new faces there which was good to see.” A ‘READY Steady Cook’style night of cookery has raised £700 for the Christie Hospital.

The event,at St Paul’s Church hall in Norden, featured demonstrat­ions by a representa­tive from the kitchen utensils company Pampered Chef.

Consultant Yvonne Massey showed people her recipe for a delicious drink, which was followed by a demonstrat­ion in the style of the TV cookery show ‘Ready Steady Cook’ with two volunteers from the audience.

She showed participan­ts how to make mouth watering dips and brioche.

While the dishes were cooking there was a raffle and a tasting session of the recipes.

The night was organised by a group of women from Norden, who invited their friends and family.

Tracy Hardman, one of the event organisers, said: “We would all like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and also everyone that attended to help us raise more money for such a worthy cause.

“The money raised will go to Christies for them to distribute wherever they need it. MEMBERS of the Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of Rochdale gathered to celebrate ●●Erin Finnerty and Ashley Higgins from Wardle High School met bandsmen from the King’s Division of the Army at a Broadway musical extravagan­za.

Councillor Peter Evans and his wife Helen, lent their support and proposed a toast to the group.

Other dignitarie­s at the event included the president of south Lancashire region, Eileen Griffiths and guests were welcomed by Ann Scott, from the Rochdale-based contingent.

Musical entertainm­ent was provided by ‘That’s all folk’ under the direction of Cliff Woodworth and, after the luncheon, Freda Farnworth gave an enjoyable recital.
