Olly wise choice for top man
KEITH Hill sung the praises of Oliver Rathbone on Saturday following a selfless display of man marking which nullified the threat of Marcus Maddison.
While several players produced noteworthy performances, Rathbone’s stood out for the manager.
“Olly Rathbone was man of the match by a country mile,” he said.
“What he did was sacrifice himself for the team and he did it at Charlton and is proving to be very good at it.
“We talk about water carriers for the team, but his performance was more about providing a service for the rest of the team and he provided it with outstanding quality.
“He was an A star performer.
“Olly covered every blade of grass that Marcus Maddison was in. Maddison is an outstandng footballer but to be an unbelievable player you have to show unbelievable temperament and Olly Rathbone showed discipline and temperament.
Every blade of grass that Maddison covered, Olly covered and then he covered some more to support his team.
“It was a very intelligent choice as man of the match.”
Harrison McGahey was another who caught the eye.
“It was a good, mature performance from Harrison but he has got to maintain that standard,” said Hill. “I was really pleased with him, but if I give him too much praise we get a ‘brakes on’ situation. I just hope he continues in his current form, he was excellent.”
Hill added the signing of Calvin Andrew, who opened the scoring with a fine finish, was ‘common sense’.
“From a team building perspective it made common sense,” he said.
“It’s just planning and I expect it to continue.
“It was good common sense, value for money to sign Calvin Andrew.”
