On Friday, November 10 all the children from St Mary’s Day School held a short service gathered round the war memorial.

Then they laid their school made emblems around the base.

On remembrance Sunday at 7am the council workmen tidied all the litter and leaves away, doing a really good job.

So we thought, and expected, something was going to take place - but nothing.

In the Observer (November 18) the headline read ‘Crowds ensure our fallen heroes are not forgotten’ so what happened at Balderstone war memorial?

No wreaths laid by service personnel.
