THE forgotten war memorial at Balderston­e

On Friday, November 10 all the children from St Mary’s Day School held a short service gathered round the war memorial.

Then they laid their school made emblems around the base.

On remembranc­e Sunday at 7am the council workmen tidied all the litter and leaves away, doing a really good job.

So we thought, and expected, something was going to take place - but nothing.

In the Observer (November 18) the headline read ‘Crowds ensure our fallen heroes are not forgotten’ so what happened at Balderston­e war memorial?

No wreaths laid by service personnel.

No wreaths laid by any town councillor­s.

Just one wreath laid by ●●Former Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk and local councillor­s Richard Farnell, Daniel Meredith and Kathleen Nickson laying tributes at the Balderston­e War Memorial last year, but one reader says this year nothing happened there on Remembranc­e Sunday St Mary’s Parish Church.

Richard Farnell mentions in the same feature there are plans to revamp the town hall square.

Is he going to discrimina­te against disabled people by preventing them from parking on the disabled areas in the revamp? Concerned, Rochdale
