Bedside vigil inspires Lisa to help hospice

-

SPENDING time at her sister’s bedside inspired Lisa Greenhalgh to donate new televisions to Springhill Hospice.

Lisa Greenhalgh says she was amazed by the treatment her late sister Linda received at the hospice and the compassionate and caring way the whole family were looked after by staff and volunteers.

Linda, who died at the hospice last month, had been poorly for many years. She suffered with the crippling pain of osteoporosis, so she was never as physically active as others, leaving her housebound for long periods of time.

Norden resident Lisa, who runs Bury Road-based recruitment consultancy Finlay Jude Associates said: “Linda thoroughly enjoyed watching television, losing herself in the programmes, it was important to her, it was her window into the world.

“Whilst sat by my sister’s side, I realised that I would like to make a lasting contribution to the care of other patients and their families. Television was very important in Linda’s life, watching programmes was a way for Linda to escape and a great distraction for her.

“So, what better way to honour her memory than to provide each single ward room at the Hospice with a brand new, state of the art, flat screen television?”

Hospice chief executive Julie Halliwell said: “As a charity we have to be very careful with funds, spending it on essentials only, so to be honest, replacing our old, small televisions has never been a top priority.

“When Lisa came to me with her donation idea, I was overjoyed.

“Never in a million years did I think that the following day, 11 brand new TVs would arrive on our doorstep.

“It’s a wonderful donation that will be a used by so many patients and their families.”

But Lisa’s generosity didn’t stop at buying the televisions.

Her partner Daz Gilkinson, of DWG Contractors, installed the state of the art sets and she has also promised to replace the televisions should they break.
